I'm back to the culinary capitol of the world!!
Upper floor lodging on Rue de Boeuf in Old Lyon
One of the better areas of Lyon for restaurant density.
My first authentic french onion soup, it was yummy.....last Thanksgiving, I made short rib french onion soup that was spectacular.
A recurring fav: saucisses aux lentilles.
Across the street from the house, at the base of the Basilica. "Bouchon" signifies authentic Lyon cuisine.
A magnificent salad with gravlox.
This lamb shank confit was superior.
I have accumulated many happy places over this years....this is one of them. Les Halles de Paul Bocuse, an amazing market named for the father of Lyon cuisine.
Nice view of the Basilica from the apartment window.
Tried an English pub (in Lyon?!?), because why not?
Roman gardens, an amazing ampitheater that's been here for a minute.
Old time restaurant....
The cuttlefish!!
Wind-up instrument played Happy Birthday multiple times during dinner!
Pressed beef something.
Fish cake was okay, nothing memorable.
Dessert redeemed the entire meal!!!
Somehow I missed this bin!!! All i needed was a tub of butter and garlic.
Another walkabout.
I might be calling these folks someday....
Cooking class.
Will the mandolin take any digits today?
We cored out potato slices for 'fish scales,' then used the leftover slices to make chips (garlic, shallot, rosemary).
The sauce was OJ, vermouth, rosemary, cream. Then beef broth with a fancy design made with chopsticks.
Day trip down to Marseille, gorgeous city.
My first bouillabaisse...wasn't awesome, wasn't bad.
Butler had the day off, so I had to do my own laundry! I usually look for lodging that has at least a washer....not a big deal to use a laundromat....and helps you pack lighter for longer trips; 32 days with two carry-ons.
